My apologies to my regular readers for being MIA lately. It’s not that I haven’t had work, I actually have lots of pretty pictures to show you. I just took a break to find myself. You see, this business thing has gotten the best of me. I let dollar signs and lack of interest dictate my love and passion for my photography. I had to sit back an evaluate what it is that I want to do with Poetic Edge.
The months of November and December are my time for learning and personal projects. This session is one of those sessions. I am so thankful for Camie and her patience. I am embarking on the whole lighting thing and I asked Camie if she should sit in for me. She was ready to go but I sadly was not. I had the lighting set up and realized that I was missing triggers. I frantically searched my bag for them with no sign of them. After wasting about 25 minutes, I decided to open the curtains and do what I normally do. Camie’s session is better than I originally planned. I am sad that I didn’t get to play with strobes but I do love her session.
Hey all! This season has been quite busy with my favorite subjects and I am enjoying it. I love my seniors and models! In fact, I am getting spoiled. I think this is the type of photography that I want to stick with. That means no weddings, no events, no children, just seniors and models. I haven’t committed to that yet but I feel the change coming. Big changes coming to Poetic Edge and I am excited about the brand that I am building.
As a photographer, I seek inspiration from everywhere. When I was first starting out, I was seeking for that information in the wrong places. Some advice I received was not always good. I attended a local Meetup where I thought I was learning proper lighting techniques. At the end of a few classes, I realized that while the teacher was incredible smart, their methods were very outdated. There is nothing wrong with this but it didn’t fit my style nor was it the most up to date information.
So I decided to round up my favorite photography lessons that I still use to this day. Below you will find a mix of blogs, video courses and more from some of my favorite photographers. I hope you check them out as they have taught me so much in the world of photography!
I had the privilege of photographing a very handsome young man this past Saturday. Meet Austin. He is a model with Tout Modeling Agency here in Charlotte as well as a personal trainer. This was my first official session with a man as my subject. I was incredibly nervous! I have shot girls for quiet sometime and simply drew a blank once he walked in. But oddly I was ok with that. This session made me think on my toes. I moved around much more in this session and was able to capture some pretty bad ass images. I am super proud of these. That black and white contemporary portrait in the third row is simply my favorite. I want to print that image in the largest size it will go and show the world. That lighting was to DIE for!
